Walk Through Animation
3DS MAX TIME: 3 HRS
RENDERING TIME: 6 HRS
PHOTOSHOP TIME: 2 HR
What kinds of applications does this have in your future design work?
This will completely revolutionize the way I present for final crits and give me a new outlet for digitally sharing my ideas.
How comfortable are you with lighting systems and materials in 3dsmax?
I would say that on a scale from 1 to 10 I am a 5 with lighting and a 6 with materials.
Do you feel comfortable with all the software you've used at this point?
Photoshop. Yes
Illustrator. Kinda, I still find myself struggling to grasp everything it is capable of and how to best use it in my production work.
3ds max. Kinda, I look forward to learning more about this but just find the interface very intimidating.
Rhino. YES, I've had many hours of practice with Rhino and enjoy using it more than any other 3D software because of all the time I've spent using it.
Revit. Kinda, because its a new world all in its self. I struggle with this software because it serves a very different function than the other software I work with.
AutoCAD. No. I used to know autoCAD really well a few years ago, however it's new layout and features is hard for me to adjust to.
Sketchup. No, I just find the logic behind its usability frustrating and difficult to manipulate. I think this is because I am so used to Rhino.
Process Images

Here I am learning how to place the camera and viewport. I had to start over many times because I didn't understand that the camera and viewport positions where set independently along the timeline at first.

I experimented with how you can change both between your set frames and what camera angels made you feel as if you where walking though the space yourself.

I went through several processes of doing the lighting analysis then trying to start the rendering before I got it just right. Making a video is hard work sometimes!

I then took to stills into photoshop to adjust the contrast and exposure by creating an action and repeating it onto all 325 frames.

After unsuccessfully trying to produce the video from the frames in 3dsMax I found a video explaining how to compile them in photoshop.

I wanted to add some audio to my animation so I experimented to find out how to do that in photoshop. I normally do my video editing in Primere but I was curious to see what basic video skills photoshop had. I was able to play around with adding audio and adjusting the video until I finally got the audio synchronized with the animation.
